A Story to Tell
We all have a story to tell and McFarlane Road happens to be mine. Welcome, my name is Alexandria McFarlane and ever since I was young, I have always held a passion for art. After graduating High School with a major in visual arts, I knew that it was something that I was talented at and wanted to continue pursuing. I decided to make my passion into a career. With the vision of expanding my skills, I went to College and got my degree in Graphic Design. I love being able to share my designs. The most rewarding aspect is finding continual inspiration and motivation to create designs that leave a lasting impression, all while embracing constant growth and evolving as a designer.
This is the point when my story changes. No one can truly prepare you for the moment when you lose a loved one, and that loved one was my Dad. In moments of tragedy, life still moves forward. Surprisingly, this difficult journey led me towards a new path. I travelled to Thunder Bay, Ontario, with my Mom’s encouragement to celebrate the birth of my newborn niece. Experiencing this was bittersweet but provided me an opportunity for reflection and to focus on life. I'll forever be grateful to my Mom, who has supported my artistic journey since the beginning.
As an artist, I had always admired the work of the Group of Seven. However, it wasn't until I noticed a 'Group of Seven Route' sign along the Trans-Canada Highway that sparked my interest. This marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life. Their Canadian artwork serves as a tremendous inspiration for me, filling me with pride in being Canadian. The Group of Seven captured their moment, and now it's my turn to capture mine—as my mom lovingly describes me with the Group of Seven as 'The Group of Seven Plus One'.
I came to realize a way to honour my dad is by utilizing the talents God has given me and to continue creating. Each day, I’m on the 'McFarlane' road of self-discovery. I continue to create art with a purpose to help inspire and to heal. Art and creating is my true passion.
